Brian Callanan, M.Ed.
Director, Cystic Fibrosis Lifestyle Foundation

Brian Callanan is a 31 year old living in Burlington, Vermont. He lives an active life, enjoying sailing, hiking, snowboarding, and playing with his dogs. Brian has managed to develop a lifestyle that contributes to his health management and looks at CF as a challenge, not a problem.

His passion for sailing stems from the ability to harness a force that could blow you backwards, or even knock you over, and utilize it as a driving force to propel you forward. Likewise, Brian chooses to utilize CF as a driving force to make him stronger and live longer.

Awards Received
Creon Family Scholarship (2000)
The purpose of this award is to provide financial assistance toward higher education for students with cystic fibrosis (CF) who demonstrate high academic credentials, the ability to serve as a role model for others with CF and the need for financial assistance.

Cystic Fibrosis Scholarship Foundation (2002-03)
The mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Scholarship Foundation (CFSF) is to provide an opportunity for young adults with CF to further their education at a college or vocational school. This possibility is often out of reach for families with CF children because of the high cost of medical care from the time these students were babies. However we at CFSF believe in the future of these young adults, their ability to achieve personal and educational goals, and their importance in making a long-term contribution to society on all levels.

Heroes of Hope Award (2004)
The Heroes of Hope program is sponsored by Genentech, Inc., to recognize and salute unique individuals with cystic fibrosis who are stars in their own right for striving to live full and productive lives, and for being role models of hope to others, while continuing to manage their healthcare needs.
